Signing Time Video Series

This is a great series for parents who want to try some basic sign language with their children. Our 13-month old daughter has been using signs for a few months now and we’re just starting this video series with her. For a couple years back in our son’s toddlerhood, this was one of his favorite shows to watch.

The format is very simple, low-key and amateurish – and I mean that in the best possible way. It consists of real kids (friends and family of the producers) showing the signs for milk, ball, play, mom, dad, etc. The graphics are kind of cheesy, the music is rather standard “background” music, and the pace is measured. I point out what might be considered flaws in other contexts, but – when we’re talking about TV for the two-and-under crowd – are really strengths. This is not going to be a video that gets your toddler all wound up. But it may teach her to sign.

This Weeks Tip

Don’t let a shaving accident ruin your perfectly-planned, light-colored “Hot Mama” outfit. A blood stain can be removed without a trip through the washing machine. Rinse the spot in cold water, then dab with hydrogen peroxide. The stain will disappear instantly… and a hair dryer can take care of the residual wetness.
