Hazaah!

Laura

Spicy Girl’s parrot-like tendencies have become somewhat helpful, in that I have a better understanding of what words and phrases are in heavy rotation in my vocabulary.  While I knew that I used the words, “Hazaah!” and “Ridiculous” to punctuate my excitement or frustration on a pretty regular basis, it was not until she was using the words with some frequency (in proper context, mind you), that I began to change up these tired old words and try out new ones.

A phrase that I didn’t have any idea that I was using with frequency was, “is that a good idea?”  Apparently, I use it quite a bit when trying to convince Spicy Girl that a particular activity would be fun – especially if it isn’t immediately something that would be of interest to a three year old.  For example, “Hey, Spicy Girl,  how about we clean your room, and THEN we’ll go outside and play with your new ball.  Isn’t that a good idea?”

“Yeah! Hazaah!” She screams with excitement.

Realize, mind you, that it’s all in the delivery.

The off-shoot of this is that Spicy Girl is all about coming up with “Good Ideas” now.  Granted, “Good Ideas” to Spicy Girl run the gamut of eating ice cream for breakfast to reading her favorite book in the bathtub. But, nonetheless, I am impressed with her introduction to consensus making.   A recent exchange went like this:

“Mommy?”

“Yes, Spicy Girl.”

“Um. Um. Um.”

“Yes?”

“Um. I am going to take my George, and my baby doll, and my bunny, and Peep, and this blanket, and the other blanket and my puppy and the Mommy puppy, and my pillow and build a castle. OK?  Isn’t that a good idea?”

Mind you, all of this has been uttered as she has run up and down the hallway between her bedroom and mine, carrying something else in her hands with each pass.

“Sure, Spicy Girl.  I think that is a great idea!”

“Right! Hazaah!”

I realize that she may never come up with a cure for the common cold or a way to seal up the hole in the ozone layer, but maybe we can finally find a practical way to incorporate ice cream into our breakfast dining experience. I think that would be a great idea!
