Castillo de Jumilla 2008 Monastrell

Castillo de Jumilla 2008 Monastrell

During one of my first dates with The Husband, we went to a nice dinner before a formal occasion. I had on a pretty lady-like number and he was in a suit. At the time, I was but a wine newbie and pretty much knew only 3 kinds of wine: Red, White and Pink. Yes, I was that classy.

The waitress asked me what kind of wine I wanted and I said, “Pink.”

At least I didn’t say, “Pink. From a box.”  She smiled. As if I was very special.

Now, twelve years later, I’m much better versed on All Things Wine. But, I still have a soft spot for The Rose.

We LOVE this Rose. The name has way too many L’s, but don’t hold it against this fresh, berry-filled Spanish wine. (Primer: Jumilla = wine-making region in southern Spain. Monastrell = grape used to make strong reds and roses.) It is beautiful – strawberry red. In fact, make sure your glass stays out of reach of the kiddies since it looks that candy-yummy.  When properly chilled, it rocks on a hot summer day.  I can really drink it with anything (or nothing) but supposedly it is excellent with all types of fish and seafood and lighter meats. Okay. If you say so.

Dee. Licious.

This Weeks Tip

Leave the beach at the beach

Kids covered from head to toe in sticky sand? Reach in your diaper bag for the Baby Powder, give them a good shake-down (with the powder, that is) and “Poof!” they’ll be clean as a whistle (and smelling powder fresh to boot!)
