Hulu.com

Hulu.com

My DVR only holds so much. So, I had to find another option, and thank goodness for HULU.com. HULU is like my own little slice of video sanity. I can go anywhere that my laptop can get a good wireless signal and I can catch up on my favorite TV shows, check out the latest SNL Digital Short, or even check out a classic episode of “Barney Miller.”

At no cost, HULU provides viewers with TV shows with limited commercial interruption. HULU’s resolution is excellent, which makes watching TV shows in the privacy of a coffee shop that much less infuriating. HULU launched in 2007, and is a co-owned partnership between NBC Universal, Walt Disney, News Corp. and Providence Equity Partners. What this means is that many of the networks and cable channels are “playing nice” and putting a wealth of content out there including scripted, reality and DIY shows.

HULU offers 18 thematic “channels” of TV shows, and while some of the shows cross channel lines (such as “Super Nanny” which is considered Family as well as Reality) it is usually very easy to find a show that you are looking for. The selection of movies is not nearly as impressive, but I’m not sure if that is what I want from HULU anyway. In other words, I will tolerate small TV, but movies need to be BIG!

With an option to subscribe to shows, my DVR can be a place where hours of “Curious George” can be stored with little fear of being deleted. “The Office”, “30 Rock” and “Glee” are already in my subscription cue. It’s like having a DVR in my briefcase, and makes my lunch hour a time where I can decompress with comedic distractions when I don’t want to talk shop over a sandwich.

Of course, HULU has some family fare, but this is one of the “skimpier” channels available. Once they get hooked up with more PBS or Nickelodeon, this may become a heavier trafficked channel for me when in “Mom Mode.” But for now, HULU serves a great purpose it gives me all the Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, and Steve Carell that I can ask for, whenever I want it. What else can a girl want?

Scrubbing the Porcelain Goddess

How about a natural way to clean the toilet bowl? Mix 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar, pour into toilet and let it fizz for a few minutes. Then scrub it with a brush, and flush. Sparkly clean, saves the environment, and a few dollars too!
